Resistance 2 (along with LittleBigPlanet) should really help Sony's holiday lineup to compete with Microsoft's Gears of War 2 and Fable 2.

Yeah, but while obviously knowledge of mathematics is essential to programming, I think the biggest visionaries in this industry are more creative than anything else. Creative ideas can always be coded by someone. Great games require creative ideas.

It's cool how writing a backstory for your game can turn into a story so much bigger than its scope that you let it seep in through other forms of media. Makes the story more believable and immersive if its coming from different channels.

I don't think that gamers should have to settle for mediocre storylines in shooters. Look at Halo. Look at Bioshock. Hell, even look at Gears of War (whose storyline should be picking up steam in the sequel). All of these games have at least some level of originality. I'm not saying Fracture isn't original, because the premise is; but if they don't really see it through, then I think it's a wasted effort. The terrain deformation is pretty damn cool though. I played the demo and had a lot of f...

Thank the heavens they've made hammer-ons and pull-offs easier; it was probably my biggest grudge with the original. Can't wait to lose another couple hundred hours of my life to Rock Band.

Just because there are some more pressing issues at hand doesn't mean we should ignore something that could be a threat. Unfortunately for politicians videogame violence is NOT a threat. It's merely a boost for their platform and a large reason that videogames are so misunderstood. (Some) Parents listen to politicians instead of experiencing video game content for themselves and then moderating their children.

I agree with a couple commenters that hopefully as generation X and ...

The whole time I was waiting for the author to tell us how a game might then be translated into a movie effectively. I guess that's a problem for director's to solve.

Maybe simulate the discovery of gameplay, show the aha moment of solving a complex puzzle, or stick very close to a game's atmosphere (e.g. much more claustraphobic scenes in Resident Evil movies).

Even if Too Human sells those 1 million preorders and then some, will it have even recouped its cost of development yet? After just under 10 years of development, they have to be severely in the red.

This game seriously needs to hit the Virtual Console. Would have been cheaper for Nintendo and more accessible to its user base.

We need an MMO where players actually have some sort of impact on the world if they're good enough. Sort of like mimicking the real world (and Second Life) in a way. Be good enough; have a true impact, advance the world to new heights or take it asunder with your evil ways.

Oh well, I'm still stuck in a pipe dream. I guess this is a step forward for the 360 platform. Now about that Halo-themed MMO...

Boxing games don't do it for me either. As an avid video game watcher at times, though, I really enjoy witnessing someone play Fight Night with grace. I think in that case, realistic graphics do me better. So personally this game loses on two fronts for me, although I can't really be a judge until I've seen it in action/played it myself!

Fiction to some, fact to others.

Christianity stills has some Pagan traditions (Easter anyone?).

The fact that any discussion about religion in forums on teh internetz is proof that religion is just too hot a tamale for game developers to handle well consistently. In a budding industry where a game will make or break your company, I don't foresee devs going very heavy on the religion.

It dissapoints me that the predictions for truly smart AI are so far in the future. I can only hope that we are actually quite close to our singularity, which would mean that AI would actually be within striking distance for modern society.

Somehow you turned one positive thing Microsoft has done into a negative one.

Anyway, Microsoft has earned much money from the XBL subscription fees. In return they've offered some solid server hosting, and a great unified platform. In no way was this worth the annual $50, but it was marginally better than PSN and much better than Wii. My question is how are they going to continue paying for all of this while still turning a profit in the games division?

Ach, the grammar nazi in me is screaming "revealed" not "reveled".

Dead Space looks interesting to say the least. Hard to believe EA is starting to create new IPs like this and Army of Two instead of rehashing their sports lineup each year. I hope this continues... it could turn the apparent loathing people have for EA into appreciation.

Terrible article that doesn't even look into what was changed. As many people have pointed out, he actually just made it more readable. I don't know why this has gathered so much heat already.

Heh, these comments are all right, even if a little contradictory sometimes.

What a 9 year old thinks of SSBB is actually quite relevent, since kids his age have all sorts of time to play games, and thus may be very well experienced. Then again, his breadth of games is probably shallow, and his cognitive processes have yet to be fully developed to look beyond shiny graphics and characters he identifies with, so in the end I'm not sure if I can take his word for it. I'll just go...

Agreed, another reason why Bungie is so popular.

For their ARG, the people who opened the first two servers received prize packages like T-Shirts and posters, while the people who opened the last 3 received nothing... until Bungie stepped in an politely asked Microsoft to pander to their most hardcore fans.
