They lost it the moment they entered the gaming industry, they just didn't know it. MS kept trying for yrs but finally realized they couldn't achieve that so they were forced to create a service which didn't help them either and now they're trying to buy most of the industry and destroy their pesky opponent because it has been interfering with their monopoly plans.
It's the only option left for MS.

Todd saw the overhyped emotions his fans always create especially after watching thelatest MS showcase and decided to chime in to avoid a huge backlash once the game releases and people see that most of those planets are actually dead.
If that's the case, no one pointed a gun to MS's several heads and told them to increase the price or else. Perfect (missed) opportunity for Phil/MS to play once again the ''I'm a gamer, I'm Mr nice guy, we love our customers'' and will not increase the prices...
No doubt, MS will try some ''PR'' and ''stealthy'' approach when they 're ready to make the increase here in the U.S. because they know more than half of their fan base is here.

That's a MS/Xbox problem not a Sony/PS problem. The sad part is with all the trillions MS has in the bank they should be the ones dominating every gen in a legit way, making great games non stop but nah, that's too much hassle for them I guess...
