Sure there are PS3 that have failed...but it is mostly for overheating or dead bluray diodes. They have fixed this during to 40Gb models...so the 80GB models should be very very reliable...much more than the Xbox 360, or even the Wii (yes the wii has hardware issues to..but no where near the Xbox 360)
To see what bluray can really do, you have to have a good tv...try playing back the best bluray disc on a good bluray player on a Pioneer Kuro plasma, and then come back and tell me DVDs look better or digital downloads look better than bluray.
Also with bluray its about the sound...most people do not have the proper 7.1 sound set up. Its not too expensive to do.

Bluray specs will scale to the 4K tv resolution in the next 5 years. Heck the PS4 will probably be 4K.

Why would anybody think that bluray with 50GB of space now and 100 GB comming next year is gonna die?
Nobody is going to download a 50Gb or 100 GB movie...it is not possible in to days or even 2012 tech....maybe 10 to 20 years from now when there is plenty of bandwidth and no caps.

Ok, I get it...the gimped Xbox 360 Arcade is now $199...but you need a harddrive to do anything good on the xbox 360...so in reality you have to by the 60GB xbox 360 for $299...that is still $50 more than the Wii...the wii will still kill the xbox 360 this christmas...now on the PS3 from...you get a lot more for $100..
