Eidos Montreal is making the game.
I think Square knows it needs this game to succeed. If it ends up playing half as good as the gameplay trailer I think it'll be the hit they need.

The Hitman series, Metal Gear Solid series, Witcher series, Deus Ex series, and others offer either branching story choices or different styles of play.
Hitman for example; you can be like a professional hitman and kill your target(s) using some form of stealth, or go in like a mad man and kill everyone in the level.
Metal Gear Solid for example; you can kill everyone in the game or simply sneak through it without killing anyon...

I agree somewhat.
It's a good game, but I didn't find it anywhere near as good as other people seem to be.
It's really only good for one play through since there's really only one way to play it.
The online isn't worth playing, unless you have a group of friends that know how to play, playing with randoms that suck make it a down right miserable experience.

How movies are sold =/= to how video games are sold.
Movies have different places to get revenue from, theater, on demand, TV rights, etc.
Video games have only one time to make revenue, when it's released. Of course DLC is starting to becoming a new standard so I guess you could add that to the list.
