The fact that IGN wrote this article makes me think PES 2013 will be horrible. Just watch. Also, the comparison between FIFA and Man City is asinine, but nice try.
Have you ever read a review or article of theirs? They're awful. Seriously, they don't have anyone on that staff who knows how to write, and that's not a lie.
IGN is bad at what they do. That's why people dislike them.
In all seriousness, I can't understand the logic of announcing a game any more than two years prior to its release. It's poor marketing that only breeds resentment throughout your fanbase.
Five or six years ago I would've told you that Square Enix is my favorite developer in the world. Now I can't even be bothered to pay attention to their antics. They don't even seem to know what's going on within their own offices and studios.
Square Enix is a joke of a company now.
I almost have every trophy... No way am I ever getting all of those feathers, though.
Looks awesome! As a massive history buff, I love this series... Can't wait until this comes out!
Simple: Just wait a bit and buy it used. That's what I'm going to do.
Jaffe is right. The review is fine- an opinion is an opinion and there isn't anything wrong with the actual content of the review. That comment the reviewer left about how he thinks the developers were lazy, and that the TM franchise is bland, is uncalled for and disrespectful. It seems like G4 hired a dude straight off of some internet message board and told him to review games. His response is childish and, to be honest, a little off-putting, and I don't have much desire to look to ...
Lay off your co-founder, who happens to be the visionary behind some of the most successful games in the past decade so that the company can make... Mobile games. Sign of the times?
I love this game, but I think that what allows me to really enjoy it is the fact that I really liked the first FF XIII as well. It just helps me care about the characters and the game world more.
I've actually found that playing like a real footballer in FIFA 12 helps me be more succesful with the game. It's the first edition of the series where I feel like this is the case, actually. The overhauled defending mechanics have made it so that sprinting down the wings and firing in crosses is less succesful than defending and countering, or trying to unlock a defense up the middle. That's just my two cents.
Game reviews just plain suck these days. Reviewers hand out perfect scores like candy. So I guess there's nowhere for the game industry to go from here?
Gaming "journalism" is infested with fan boys who make no effort to subjectively review a game. Reviews are all about getting a game's fan base more excited- not about actually evaluating a game.
"This can be compared to New Austin and Neuvo Paraiso being one huge city, paved end to end."
I have trouble imagining this, but if they pull if off then it will be an amazing achievement.
Right now, Portal 2 is my game of the year.
Congrats to Naughty Dog!
The review makes good points regarding the story- the plot is flawed in all of the ways he mentioned, and it's something I noticed on my playthrough- but that doesn't warrant a 4/10. I don't understand why he spent the first part of the review complaining that games are too story-focused these days with not enough gameplay, but then he critiques the game almost entirely based on the story flaws. If he only had fun in chapters 12-15, like he says, then I don't know what to tell...
"Its zippy storyline and witty, conflicted characters proved potent enough to make gamers forgive what were, even then, outdated gameplay mechanics."
This is a ridiculous notion. No video game since maybe Mario 64 or Zelda: OOT has featured gameplay elements that aren't derivative in some way. If you'd really like to, you can break Uncharted 2's gameplay down into simply shooting and platforming, but that's lazy and ignorant of the game's stellar...
Is it that difficult to write a review without spoiling anything? Seriously, some of these game reviewers these days are absolute idiots. Nobody wants to read a review so they can know about specific segments or plot points before getting their hands on the game.
It's surreal to watch someone say sensible things regarding their opinions of a game. Everything he said makes sense, and I think there are several more problems with the multiplayer. For one thing, powerplays are a terrible idea. There's nothing more frustrating than to be on a kill streak and then all of the sudden you're the "marked man" and everyone is making a bee line for you... Or the opposing team suddenly does double damage.
"Is this really the epitome of the best graphics possible on current-gen consoles?" That's the caption for your screenshot... of a staircase? Dinobox is really reaching here. The graphics are excellent considering the size of the game world. Los Santos and Blaine Country are huge, but still cohesive and interesting. It's really a huge achievement.
