I think that Call of Duty scene where you shoot up a Russian airport, imo has to be one of the lowest moments in gaming history. It was just unnecessary provocation, imagine if a Russian developer created a same scene depicting a terrorist attack on an American airport?!
For me, it wasn't just unnecessary violence that served little purpose to the narrative, it was politically insensitive to say the least.
