So, why would they want to slim a ps2 over a ps1, because the ps2 they COULD slim, and it would payoff, while the ps1, they wouldn't be able to do too much with it.
It's the same reason why we don't see an Xbox360 slim, because it's as slim as it can get, and the upgradable-overpriced-harddriv es are too big to fit on anything smaller
