In this case the game was definitely altered to appease both systems. Lost odyssey had towns lots of them but they cut back on fmvs due to lack of space. Well in this case the towns and side missions were cut. Fans are pissed and I hope square learns fr...
I can only imagine the backlash if square makes ff7 remake multiplatform. But its always a possibility since microsoft would pay anything for this game.
I think everyone understands that Microsoft gave square-enix a deal they couldnt refuse. No one would have been mad though if the game didnt have things cut. The game is wayyyyy to linear I am at chapter 7 and I have yet to see a real town. FFX was linear too but you still had the choice to return to towns and past areas to complete side tasks and grind.

Namco had a big thing going with microsoft in japan. tales of vesp, air combat, Idolmaster(lol)and a couple others were all 360 exclusives. Well in the end sales were down like 80% and they had to switch to multiplat.
That would make sense if square didnt make last remnanat, star ocean, and infinite undiscovery 360 exclusives. Especially since the 360 was dead in the water in japan where the ps3 could have sold tons of copies of star ocean.
Microsoft probably paid all development costs for both systems. They even bought the advertising rights and dont forget the bundle. Even best buy had the the 360 version all over their ads and in small text also on ps3. The ironic part is sony owns 9% of square-enix so sony made money on both versions.
You guys have to remember square left nintendo when they decided the n64 would hold them back from making a great game. Now 15 years later its doing the opposite. Holding its flagship game back to make microsoft happy. But still I think microsoft paid for development of both versions ps3 and xbox. I dont think I would say no to that deal either.

Reading all the replies here I have come to the conclusion that if this game is bad square-enix will lose most of their fanbase. Most people prior to ff12 thought square made only aaa games. After ff12, last revelent, dirge of cerberes, star ocean that opinion started to change. But if their flagship title fails I cant only imagine the backlash coming. Guess we have to wait till tues.
I think the Ironic part in all this is sony owns about 9% of square-enix.

It had to have been cut since the 2 discs were already full. I still dont understand how they kept the hammerhead soo under wraps though.
Edit I agree anything added is a plus since the game was mindblowing.

After some horrible 360 warranty service I have received from microsoft and reading the 360 hardware forums ( http://forums.xbox.com/281/... ) I doubt half these consoles = new customers. I rather buy another arcade then pay microsoft 100 plus tax for a refurb that goes bad in 2 months.
If they do a sequel they have to add npcs, side bosses,side missions,towns, and a world map.
