I do play a decent amount of 2D platformers, but it just seemed really forgiving to me. You can just stock up on balloons in the store. If there was any difficulty, it was because the controllers felt floaty, so I'm not sure it would even handle being harder.
Seems to me there are just tons of more creative platformers out there with more personality. Recently, Celeste, which is clearly more challenging, has better controllers, music, story, has a personality unlike DKC...
"goes there" means "has a different opinion than me"
Grow up
Well, when you don't reinvent yourself for 20 years and lose all the personality that made Donkey Kong Country great, it seems kinda right. It's also a lazy remaster tha tadds an easy mode to a game that isn't really all that challenging.
Isn't it very easy?
I rated it 6/10 as well in part because there was little challenge. Probably easiest 2D platformer I've played in a long time.
Almost none of the examples in this article are particularly recent. I get the point about music becoming more ambient, but just take the old Donkey Kong games versus Tropical freeze, for an example of how games are settling for safer soundtracks with less personality.
The indie scene is still making amazing music. Celeste, Into the Breach, Red Strings Club just this year. Not to mention classics from the last decade like Journey (in the article) and Hotline Miami.
Final Fantasy XIIIs core story was good, but pacing and dialogue sucked
Lol I noticed that you didn't. And that you probably don't read a lot in general.

Microsoft was always a bad fit for Rare
Aaaaaand here comes blind fanboyism to shut down the conversation. What Xbox is doing to preserve old games is great.

No one is arguing the PlayStation doesn't have better exclusives. That's a separate conversation (and btw, PlayStation has better exclusives, in my opinion). But Xbox does do a really good job of making old g...
Yes, it's a great game

It does feel weird that you could punch someone over a house, but need Atreus to extend a chain whenever you want to scale a ledge.
Other GoW games actually gave you a huge range of movement during gameplay, so it was less apparent there.
Stop being so defensive. Some of these are reasonable criticisms. And it's still an amazing game.
Zelda is still struggling with the problems Ocarina had. It's a good game, but it kinda makes me lose all faith in Nintendo at the same time. Tell an interesting story some day, Nintendo.

I'd like to not have another tech thing that updates annually please

The grand intellectual tradition of "we don't need criticism, because people can just not buy" never works in practice. If it did, darx, why did you comment instead of just "not read"?
Damn, good find! No wonder they had to change
Yeah, seems like it's extremely influenced by Kiki / Studio Ghibli. Isn't that basically Miyazaki in the picture there?
The Kongs used to have personalities, whereas now they're just happy apes celebrating DK's birthday.
You used to have this:

And yeah it was corny and cheesy back then, but at least it attempted to separate itself from the others. CK was actually a grump who tried to talk down the success of the Donkey Kong games. Clever stuff.
