As a long time PS3 only owner, It can be extremely frustrating to pop in a new (or old revisited game) to be greeted with hefty long updates and installs.
It really takes you outta the mood to game when you have to sit and wait which seems like forever.
What happened to the good ol' cartridges where you just blew em' once or twice and was midway through the first level???

This game has carried me on when their was nothing to play this holiday season. The MP is fun/addictive but very hard considering you're going up against other great players. So I'm still in the Bronze league..
I didn't know where you going with your original post until you brought up Demon's Souls.. And you're absolutely right. I loved invading worlds as a Black Phantom and backstabbing a unsuspecting blue phantom or player while they were collecting souls. You could see the FEAR in their characters movements when I sprang out of nowhere to deal a devastating blow...
That was funny as hell.. Loved the part when they created Black Ops with a loaded gun, zombie parts, army figurines and Homophobic racism from xbox live.
