Destructoid's Fallout 3 Preview (Part II)

Like any self-respecting Vault Dweller, the player is brought into the world in a cold, fluorescent-lit underground hospital cell. Bleary-eyed and filled with wonder, the player begins the game through the perspective of a newborn infant with the singular capability of pressing the A button to cry. Your father (also known as the father you always wished for, played by Liam Neeson) gazes fondly at you coveted behind a hospital mask and glasses. Newborn life in post-apocalyptic Washington, D.C., doesn't seem to be all that bad after all.

I am so looking forward to this game. I like the little touches that put in the Fallout world. I've always liked Bethesda's RPGs and hope that they learn from a few of the minor mistakes from Oblivion (more voice actors & less buggy games).

Chuck Norris6624d ago

I'm tempted to wait for the GoTY edition, Bethesda loves doing those.

DRUDOG6624d ago

Funny you say that cause the thought crossed my mind the other day. I wish that I had one disk for Oblivion and Shivering Isles instead of the separate expansion pack.

There will be a collector's edition released also, but it includes some unwanted (for me) stuff although the art book would be nice:

Vault Boy bobblehead
100-page hardcover art book
Making-of Fallout 3 special DVD
Metal Vault-Tec lunch box

Chuck Norris6624d ago (Edited 6624d ago )

I got screwed on the Oblivion expansion as well. I'll be getting the GoTY edition if Infamous and White Knight Chronicles both come out this year. There's just too many games to play this year, starting this month: Persona 3 FES, GT:P, GTA4.

DRUDOG6624d ago

The only problem with waiting on the GOTY editions is that they take so damned long to come out. Look at Oblivion or CoD4 for example: GOTY Oblivion didn't come out for at least six months after initial release and CoD4 has taken roughly five. Now obviously GOTY's normally contain additional content that is usually made available around the same time and, almost always, months after initial release. I just wish it wasn't six months to a year later.

How is the Persona series? Those are on PS2, right? Always figured I'd try them out, but just never have...

Chuck Norris6624d ago

If it takes 5-6 months to make, then I can wait. Persona is a good series (a bit on the childish spectrum), it combines two games in one (school part, dungeon crawling). If your're into anime, manga, or japanese culture then Persona is a good game to get.

"This is where you begin the first stages of protagonist development, choosing whether your character is male or female while designating the eventual physical characteristics and nationality you will display within some solid years of maturity"

Huh, nationality?!?!

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart143d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken7142d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies12144d ago (Edited 144d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel1989143d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_143d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg143d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher143d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq1143d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76215d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8215d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac215d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage214d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro403d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
