The old dude you are referring to (Skip Bayless) isn't a gamer. I watch that show all the time and he has said on more than one occasion that he has never played video games. People that don't play video games and comment on them usually come off as idiots.
ESPN had several military people email and post on their site that not only did they not find it offensive but they enjoyed Kobe in the commercial and they love COD games. I play with a couple guys on my friends...
