Mirrors edge was never about dark and angsty. The blue skies and dazzling mirrored whites of the city were what gave it half its fantastic atmosphere. Keep the stile, but for the love of god make the story better. And if you're gonna have gun-play in a game make it good. Don't push people away from a game mechanic by making it crap. If you don't want people to do something in your game don't design the game to have them do it.
