Dude, Mario is not an adventure game. It's a platformer.
A sequel to a platformer should have new gameplay elements(Yoshi looks sweeeeet), an increased challenge (reports say this game is even more challenging than the first), and most importantly a sequel to a platformer should have brand-new levels, and SMG2 not only has brand-new levels, but they look kick-ass.
Galaxy is a huge jump compared to Mario 64. But man, it took 11 years after Mario 64 to realize that kin...
guys he's kidding. If you read the article and the context of that comment, you can see he's not seriously expecting that kind of sales numbers.
It's not just these two games. This year alone the Wii, like all three consoles, is being treated very well gamewise. There's undeniably some great "hardcore"(pffft such a stupid term) games on Wii. I think these new releases definitely solidify the Wii's library.
The newest generation of Pokemon is to be released this year in Japan.
You know what that means? Here, I'll show you.
Red/Blue --> Gameboy
Gold/Silver --> Gameboy Color
Ruby/Sapphire --> Gameboy Advanced
Diamond/Pearl --> DS
New Pokemon Game --> New Handheld
I couldn't agree more.
Yeah, I know, I just don't see how that would differ from anything else that has a limited release. If I seem frustrated over it, it's just because this is about the 6th article I've seen recently about Triology being a limited release. Although this may be a different angle on it, it still seems like a tired topic. (I'm not the one who disagreed though, btw :P)
How are these articles still getting approved?
News of this being a limited release is about as old as when this game was first announced.
An abomination to hardcore gamers? You should be grateful. Not only is the "omg wii is not harcorez enuff for me! where's the blood and shooterz?!" argument getting really tired, but you should be thankful for the casual market. It's keep this industry thriving. How can you not realize this? Let me break it down for you.
EA makes a ton of money off EA Sports Active, do you have to play the game? No. But people like your Mom, and many others who usually wouldn't play gam...
I honestly don't know why there's been so many articles about this. Trilogy was said to be a limited time thing before it was release. It was fanservice for those who enjoyed Metroid Prime. I doubt Nintendo is saying they aren't acknowledging that they made a statement about it. That doesn't make sense.
TP also sold over a million on the Gamecube. Making its numbers actually higher than OoT.
Name me one other developer who's put out as many games rated over 85% this generation as Nintendo has. Across the Wii and DS Nintendo and their developers have put out:
Super Mario Galaxy
Twilight Princess
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
New Super Mario Bros.
Punch Out!!
Super Paper Mario
Flipnote Studio
Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
The Legend of Ze...
...honestly, that's ridiculous. Even if Natal is successful chances are slim it'll be THAT successful. Lol, Sony and Nintendo, (and of course Microsoft) aren't going anywhere any time soon.
Deadspace and Madworld are extremely niche games. Wii owners are tired of on-rails shooters. Madworld honestly is just a bad game. Hardcore =/= automatic great game.
Muramasa, Little Kings Story, and Zack and Wiki are unknown. If it weren't for N4G I wouldn't know about them. None of the games you mentioned would have sold any better on any other console with the way they were dealt with.
hehh I lol'd.
Firstly, I agree that the term "Hardcore gaming" is often mistaken for blood and shooters. The words your looking for are "excessively violent gaming".
Secondly, lol you guise made Reggie cry prbly.
But seriously, despite the popularity of Nintendo's "casual" games, I'd wager they've released the most hardcore games out of any of developer this generation. Think about it, between Wii and DS there are tons of hardcore efforts from Ninten...
I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I would also love to see those types of improvements. However, third parties have got to stop short-changing Wii owners and then grumbling when their attempt at fast cash doesn't pan out.
The Conduit, although I think there's some hope in its sequel, is a bad game. Madworld is extremely niche and shallow. Mature does not equal quality.
My gripe is more with Sega, because their business decisions and reactions to things often...
Sega should not bite the hand that feeds them. Their highest selling game ever, in their entire company history, is Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Second is Sonic 2. In fact three out of their five top selling games have been on Nintendo consoles. From this generation too.
Holy hell, I'm stoked.
So? You don't have to play shovel ware.
The PS2 was amazing, and the undisputed best console of last generation. It was filllllllllledddd with shovel ware. But that didn't prevent people from buying God of War, SotC, etc etc.
The popularity of the system will always be reflected in its shovelware.
Do you think ideas for a brand new type of Mario are not already being thought up?
There will be another generation of Mario that will probably find some way of being amazing that no one had thought of. There's no missed opportunity here.
In fact, this is an opportunity seized. If a game receives critical acclaim, everyone loves it and you have the chance to give them a solid sequel, then why not?
It would not have been possible for them to bust out some...
