Assuming that a Slim is announced next week, what happens to the price of the existing original 80GB PS3s at such retail stores? Are they hoping to dry up their stock before the announcement in order to avoid offering a price reduction? I would think that they'd have to discount the originals by a fairly significant amount if one can buy a newer, superior model for around the same price.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, as much as I wish it weren't. A price cut to the remaining 80GB models would help them clear the shelves and make room for the newer models. Why pay $299 or $399 for an outdated 80GB PS3 if the Slim costs the same? Seems that either way Sony will have to discount the 80GB more than the Slim.
