I want to make a bid for a new definition of such situations for 8th-Gen, since certain others elsewhere mistakenly call such resolutions "Sub-HD" when they're clearly not, I propose a bid for a new and more appropriate "Sub-2K" definition:
2K resolution should range from 1920x1080(16x9)/1920x1440(4x3) minimum to 2048x1152(16x9)/2048x1635(4x3) maximum.
In the 8th-Gen, any resolution between 720p and 2K minimum should be considered ...

There's no reason it shouldn't be 1080p on X1, no reason 'at all'.
