For a company like sony, public perception is everything. And to have ms drop a bomb like that, and have nothing to reply with would be pure stupidity. Sony have been caught with their pants down. To alot of people they would be looking out of the game, out of touch and out of ideas. I would think that they would be looking for ways to make a fine example out of SE right about now.

They gain access to the 360 user base. What? 20 (not sure on up to date figures, dont really care) million consoles, - maybe a few thousand dual 360 console households, - lets be generous and call it 5% hardware failures, - % of people who own a 360 and dont like JRPG's, - people who also own a ps3 and will buy it on ps3.

I think if you look at 99% of 3rd party exlusives, they eventually go to other consoles.
MGS 1-2 are good examples, eventually finding their way to the xbox, game cube, pc.
ff7 was also available on pc.
Wipeout has been available on pc also.
Gears of war is also available on pc.
Exclusive for a year is just as good as exclusive. If you can wait a year for a game, its not the kind of game you are goi...

The hdd matters because it provides a large memory area to use as a cache. Uncharted: Drakes fortune has about 2 seconds of combined loading time in the whole game because it pre loads the next area of the game on the hard drive. Without the hard drive this wouldnt be possible. Burnout paradise also does something similar on online, though im not sure how that works. The hdd is obviously also used for downloads/music/porn/other videos.

ok it beats any current "stock" ps3 models. Although there are alot of people out there with 300GB plus already installed in ps3's. And for the sports fans paying attention, Microsoft DO NOT do computers. They make software only. As evidenced by the god awful reliability and design of the 360. Sony however DO do computers, laptops actually. And tv's, surround sound systems. Who do you go to for home entertainment needs? A software company? Or a home entertainment company?
