I agree. Arkham City felt like it was trying way too hard. Plus for me personally, the navigation system sucked. That's a pretty huge fuckup when it comes to open world games.
I preferred the tighter, linear narrative of Arkham Asylum.

Not that I'm not excited about this game but what was so "un-freaking believable" about this gameplay? Looked fairly mellow to me.

Lol. Word. Those guys suck bad. I mean the sniper wasn't even aiming higher taking the whole bullet drop into account. This reminded me of that E3 Crysis 2 MP video that had probably the worst players ever.
