having a straightforward story isn't a bad thing at all, if you're playing dark souls without a guide or with a help of a friend you'll most likely be really confused or miss out a bunch of important stuff.
They said challenging gameplay will still be apparent, so if everything else is a little bit more straightforward other than that, I actually don't see a problem at all.
