A good example, HALO: Reach had the most retarded "perks" in online gaming, if you want to sprint you have to choose a specific class for it ffs. This made the game slow & tedious if you wanted to go with a jetpack or something else that's fun.

DLCs in the 90s and early 2000s was a way for the developers to reward its fans for supporting their games, oh and it was free. As soon as Xbox Live launched though. Man, what a clusterfuck.
