They may be making smart moves, but they aren't making any exclusives that anyone wants to play.
And a move to live service is only a good move for the companies not for a lot of gamers.

A guild would be a great start. The problem is that game companies feed off of dreams, so a lot of devs will say yes to just about anything to get in the door. With a guild and or union they would at least have some protection.

So it's a grindy game that takes 140 usd to play with a market stall (that lets you spend real money) put in at base camp. Because you know 140 usd isn't enough money to get the color of armor you want. This game could have been fucking awesome, instead it's a greed fest that puts it into free-to-play territory.
I want to get a switch for my wife, but it's definitely not for me. I stopped liking games like Mario and Zelda when I was around 12 or so, maybe even before. I'm not too much into pixel games (played 1000s upon 1000s of hours of them when I was younger) and don't feel the need to game when I leave the house.
New Vegas is an awesome game.
They also won't offer an offline option...

Only time a one-off game with no additional content would be insidious, would be when of if the devs lied about game play.
The games are not free - they are on loan for the duration of the PS account. And yes they do have to loan games, it's a part of the service. What they don't have to do is loan out decent games it seems.

Why do I pay for PS +? So far in my first 3 months the only game that might have been worth it was a glitch fest in Mafia 3 in which a ton of content was locked behind a pay-wall called "DLC". FIFA is infested with micro-transactions - if they penalize flopping, I would be a bigger football fan - other than taht on a rare occasion I'll watch a Livorno or Benevento match.
