Well that's a straight definition of what makes an "average" hero "average," but why is it that game developers are so obsessed with not trying to do something different? It's not like gamers are turned off by something new or exciting.
Just look at Mario - not every hero is an Italian plumber.
Haha missed opportunity, obviously.
Did anyone see this one coming?
@Kee
I think the massive changes made in these triple-A RPGs has more to do with their views on the most profitable style of game, not fans failing to support certain titles. Mass Effect and Dragon Age look to become even more popular than Jade Empire, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate. All those games were massively supported by the core audience, but as a result didn't carry mass appeal.
I don't know how someone can look at BioWare's changes as anythi...
Great point, definitely more of an introduction for more people. If BioWare wasn'tt aking that approach with all of their major franchises I'd be happy: bring people in with one, give them a bit deeper experience to go alongw ith it. I just don't like how only one is waaaay more profitable :S
Man, if Pokemon 3DS give me anything even remotely close to the image you used for the actual combat screen you have, then I'm in. To actually see your own creature in the foreground, and following them out to their enemy, plus animated attacks, it will actually be the game the my 9-year-old imagination turned it into. I hope that Nintendo stops just repeating the same look and steps into a new graphical standard, but my hopes aren't exactly that high :(
I'm thinking of how this could be used in the future to steal a bit of OnLive's thunder. If players can back up their versions of downloadable titles like the upcoming DCUO, how big a leap is it to have several subscribers paying for access to a game in the cloud?
The possibilities here are really limitless, and definitely seems like the kind of thing that xbox Live should be offering for its subscription. I prefer Live, but have to hand it to PSN on this one.
Same here. I Haven't played a Pokemon title since GameBoy Color, but it seems like it's still the perfect timekiller when you're on the go.
For me, a great story can even make up for somewhat troublesome gameplay. Red Dead Redemption for instance. Fantastic story and writing, kept me playing through the at-times monotonous gunplay and traveling just to keep the story going.
Man, I would love to see another Killer Instinct, even if it was just a smaller downloadable title a la Deadliest Warrior. That game was a ridiculous amount of fun against other way too serious fighters.
Yeah I don't know if you read the article in its entirety or not. The editor has confirmed that the game to be announced is not an Xbox 360 exclusive, and in the list given.
So nobody is an "IDIOT," we're giving you the straight possibilities.
I personally think it will be Syndicate.
Syndicate, all the way.
I'm out of my depth with anything more sophisticated than 'Deadliest Warrior.' Awesome to see it scored so high though, can't wait for the next crossover!
Yeah if you're one of the people who play this non stop then whats $15. But for anyone who plays COD even casually, its not anywhere near enough content for the price tag.
I'm gonna have to start saving NOW for next November? Jeez, I thought this year was pricey, but I can't argue with games of this quality. Hope next year won't be a lull.
Are you saying that you'll take issue with any problems anyone has, and only be satisfied with a perfect score? Seems a bit crazy :S
I agree with you that the appearance of a game hero isn't a make-or-break decision for me, but... I also closely resemble them.
For people of other ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation (like the article points out), I have to imagine that being completely absent from any recognition in the triple-A game space as fitting for a hero isn't doing anybody any good.
It's one thing to say that your game isn't "about race or gender," but...
