One word the reason why they are doing this: PSVR!
in case you forgot, Sony said the VR games has to be at 60fps, not 30, running it on OG PS4 will cause motion sickness due to it's not strong enough to hit games at 60fps, So if you look at this way, in my opinion I think it's a good thing they're doing this so it can take full advantage of VR running it smoothly, plus it won't split the user base because it'll run the previous library. I won't be getting VR ...
