No, specs alone never mattered. It didn't matter for the N64, xbox og nor the PS3.
What matter the most is games. Crazy I know. The most important thing to a gaming console are games.
PS1 won over N64 because of games

Apparently they don't matter much to some police in the US.
Its a neat feature but that is just it. When I buy a next gen console 99% of the time I want to play next gen games that might be sequels or new IP's. I actually prefer new IP's as I get tried of playing sequels that are just old games with better graphics and a few new gameplay mechanics.
Only 1% of the time I might be looking at playing old games with nicer graphics.

Only reason why I have MGS3 over MGS4 as the best MGS game is because MGS3 has the better boss battle.
Highlight for me was going back to Shadow mosses and exploring it again in HD

Well the vast majority of us have not a killed a person in real life. I am sure it is pretty brutal to do so especially when you use clubs,knives, machetes.

It all comes down to distribution. As long as internet is not fast enough to keep with up with expanding content size or cheap enough for people to buy games digitally. Physical will always be.
Lets not forget that the market for growth for console gaming is in developing countries. If game publishers want to increase their stock value. They need to look into other growth markets apart from established ones.
Personally I will never buy AAA games digitally...
Lets be real here. The only reason MS is doing this for next gen is becuse their gaming offeeing has been so abysmal that they look at really old games to bolster their lineup. Only reason.
You know all my 40 years of gaming I never cared about the gender of people in games. When Samus reveled herself I thought oh cool then that was it.
For 40 years I never cared that 99.999% of people I play as are straight.

Road to the PS5 was primarily for devs and core gamers that understand some of the things reveled.
The other rumor event is first reveal for gamers in general that want to see actual games on the PS5
RED make games with gamers/consumers in mind because they know their masters are the gamers/consumers.
