This is called cross marketing. MS didn't pay for all that. It's co-op marketing that benefits both parties. MS got free exposure and the products sold more. Simple as that.

The guy's example of a PS3 forcing Blu Ray is COMPLETELY different from a computer. If you buy a PS3, you HAVE to get a Blu ray player, because it's in EVERY console. You think Windows is on EVERY pc? Pure genius.
The fact is, both "consoles" are great. But the formats (which are for movies) are both pointless. Blu ray is great for delivering extra room to make bigger games, but the consumer has spoken and they're happy with DVD movies until a true next format is delivered.

DVD - still has some time left

Which ever system you prefer, just ignore the silly ,movie format war. They're both going to lose anyways. Neither Blu Ray, nor HD DVD will be around in a few years. That doesn't mean the PS3 will suffer as it'll still have a nice format to supply large games on.
