UHD players are far from the sub $100 price point with all the bells and whistles, if ever a player were to be produced, making both Sony's and MS's consoles the goto UHD player even more so for cord cutters. Having both streaming capability and the ability to play games has drastically increased adoption rates in the past. I see it happening again.

Leading in innovation does not to equate to the successful integration of a product. Just do a quick Google search about Sony's failed products and it's recent removal of electronic divisions which were no longer successful to see just how successful at innovation they were.
Blu ray and the cell processor are what cost them the lead with the PS3. If they had leading edge tech they certainly mismanaged it's deployment. Hence why they are reactive this time round...
