As for Sony, they'll be fine. I just find it amazing that people claim Sony charges so much for their stuff when Apple charges an arm and a leg for their products.

If I had a choice between free and paid, I would choose free. Why? Because I pay for the console and the games. Why should I then have to pay for the online service. Seeing people flail and justify XBL is pretty asinine, to say the least.
