That's the number one issue.
I have my PS3 and I still have a PS2. I bought a next gen system for next gen games, not old ones I can play on old consoles. At least Sony gives you a choice because no one forces you to buy remasters when you can play them on old consoles.
Or you know, you could keep your old consoles. Options are nice to have.
