2000 people out of 1000000 is not that many. Hell the average technology failure rate is 15% MS 360 failure rate was 16%. Yet the 360 survived I doubt you should worry about such things.
I wish nobody ever got a faulty unit. I went through way too many when the 360 launch. Just keep in mind, new technology there will always be some that will happen to which sucks for those people, but knowing the track record its just a few units compared to all the many that have been out there.
Actually he is talking about gameplay not fancy effects. Which of course its true, higher res with higher fps is better then low res with low fps with more detail. If you own a gaming pc that can't run stuff on ultra you will sacrifice graphics over resolution.

Also I checked on Eurogamer and it only runs 720p on single player before patch. Multiplayer 1080p no patch needed.

I have both, I tend to game on Console a lot, then comes periods where I do PC gaming a lot. I go back and forth, just play where you enjoy it, be a gamer not a fanboy.

I known him since G4TV, the thing with him, is sometimes I agree with what he says and sometimes I don't. He isn't too bad though.
Edit: I am not defending him, it just depends on the topic, I don't think the rant he did about not getting a free PS4 was a good thing.
