Awesome list! You've got some of my all-time faves in there. Although I still haven't finished Amnesia...
You're missing out, Muck. Some amazing free-roaming exploration, combined with all the character customization that a real RPG can give: those are what you find in a Beth RPG.
Of course, you do need a good 80-100 hours to spend. :)
I've dabbled in a couple of these... thank goodness there's not really a "build" option for the Sims Social or I'd be in trouble!
I didn't even know such a thing existed!
I can't believe I didn't do better on this! I was a huge RE fan, up until it jumped that Zombieless shark, that is.
I'm not normally a sports game fan... but I might have try some of these!
Great way to spend that lunch hour!
Yup - I'm interested to see how digital delivery affects console games in the future.
I've got this one in my "to-play" pile, and I'm really looking forward to it!
I love Penny Arcade! I don't always get it, though, especially if they're talking about a game I haven't played.
I've recently gotten into a couple of browser-based strat games: Travian and Batheo. I had no idea that Facebook games had evolved much beyond "FarmVille," lol.
For gamers who are new to a genre, certain conventions (barrels will explode, finding a cache of health / ammo means a boss fight is coming up) create a sense of familiarity and help them get comfortable. I agree completely, however, that some real innovation needs to happen in the FPS genre.
Awesome article - I haven't seen stickmen in forever!
I agree. It looks just gorgeous.
Like the goblin says, "time is money." Many players at this point have far more of the latter than the former.
I still play LotRO, myself. Just because these didn't get a mention, that doesn't mean they aren't awesome games.
Max Payne is one of my favorite games, ever! I died SO MANY times in the elevator sequence, "Hmmm... Mona," is part of my permanent lexicon. Have you played LA Noir yet?
I get you completely, Keith. In fact, the Hub and I were just talking about this yesterday. Many F2P'ers end up spending much more than the typical monthly sub fee. However, it DOES at least give you the choice on how--and when--to spend your money.
Cool to see that it reminded you of Myst... I might have to check this one out.
Loved Aya Brea and PE2, only wish they'd make a follow up for consoles. And how 'bout Sylvannas? She's my all-time fave.
