This article actually manages to humble both the PS4 and X1.
X1 definitely gets humbled the most, though.
For $200 one was able to get hardware that was "technically" as powerful as the PS4 is now.
So the fact that Microsoft got folks to spend $500 for a console that is nearly half the power of what the PS4 can do (based on the measurements in this article) is either evil or good salesmanship, depending on your point of view.

Definitely sell high if you must own one console and you own an X1. It won't be long until there will be another X1 pricecut and then the sell-high days will be past.

I actually agree with you.
However: People making a big deal about it + people trying to say it isn't a big deal = a big deal in the end.
It's just how things are and Microsoft has to know this.
It does make you wonder if the original promise was a PR move.
I don't like the "can't tell you the specifics of why not" part.
I'm very impressed with the stat that perhaps 50% of PS4 owners are new to the Playstation brand from last gen.
