I really wanted to buy a WiiU for Xenoblade but if the NX is backwards compatible....

Microsoft may win November and December NPD like last year and then Sony will take over again in January. I'm sure Sony would like to win those months but they have the release-library and depth to make up for it rest of the year.
I can't imagine how hard it will be to upgrade this entire FF7 world but I'm so happy they are undertaking this task.
This is my most anticipated game.
No company in their right minds would stop producing something that makes them so much money. Amiibos are here to stay but Nintendo should invest their money into better directions for the rest of us.

In terms of the console war, Sony is drinking champagne to this news and will certainly try their very best to make sure people have reason to buy consoles --- as being very different from PCs. Sony will now have the opportunity to dominate the idea of what console gaming means through hardware sales. They already have the lead this gen and will just try to gain more of a hold.
Microsoft wants to merge the two ideas together, seeing that their gaming hardware plans aren't...
