For the people really into the game, they can appreciate the changes they've requested for each character, the addition of red focus, delayed standing to stop unblockable setups, and online training and elimination for the online team battle. Unless you're really into it, the update is not much, but it's a lot for others.
Any Halo fan knows that Halo gameplay is not shown a year before release at E3, not after Halo 2 at E3 2003. The 60fps thing kind of bummed me, but I blame the gamers these days for that making a big deal out of it lately. So mostly not disappointed myself, and after what's been said about the game after, I'm looking forward to it.

Halo is getting it's identity back. Skill and teamwork are returning to the FPS genre.
It's how you do it, give the people true value. There's no comparing that amount of content for that price, unheard of.

Then it came out a year later as looking like a completely different game. Even the rate of fire on the Battle Rifle changed.
That's my kind of marketing.
If you don't complaints of downgrades, that's what has worked the past. That's what happened after gameplay for Halo 2 was shown at E3, the final was so off, they never showed gameplay at E3 unless the game released that year. Doesn't raise expectations too high.
I honestly don't think anything not releasing this year will steal the show, the people are tired of hearing about 2015 already.
You would be surprised at how many brag about what shouldn't be bragged about. Kind of sad really.
