I'm not surprised that it is below the console par, but I am surprised it approached it. I just went from detractor to on the fence skeptic.
Nintendo always seems to flip it around in the end. After the N64 and Gamecube, I am sure they have an ace or two up their sleeve, and that's not even including the 3DS, which ought to be as popular as everyone thinks it will.
I've been replaying the first Call of Duty. It certainly feels like a 7 year old game. Still fun though -- a testament to Infinity Ward.
If games want some element of realism, I don't think there's any getting away from it. And with million of people playing like this, I don't think developers would like to change it.
And if you don't like head shots... I mean, if you have a gun and shoot someone in the head, what options does a video game really have. How unsatisfying would it be to shoot someone in the head and for them not to die?

Once upon a time Shawn Elliott while at 1UP said that a review is merely the words to describe a gut reaction, and can be boiled down to "I dig this" or "I don't dig this". The score is merely an extension of this emotion. Despite any particular issues, Dan Hsu was able to recommend the game without hesitation due to his gut reaction. I don't see an issue with that 10 (or any other 10/A+ 1UP ever gave...even Nick Suttner's!)
Terrible idea, but even worse have been profitable. I can't even imagine being so good at a game that I would put money on it. Doesn't seem like a lot of fun to me.
The medium is the message. Whether or not the game makes any commentary is not the issue. I think it will open the door and future games will take those steps. This game, should it be released, willsimply open the door
Duke Nukem kind of disgusts me. Just the very idea that such a character/world/sense of humor is appreciated by anyone. In particular: his hair cut.
