I still like the game, so not quite the opposite. 'IT's my least favorite of the good ones' is a bit of on odd line though, I admit. I probably could have worded that a bit better.
Author here, I actually played the game a short while after it came out. Having played FF IV and VI on the SNES (Mind you, I was confused as hell at the time about why they skipped IV-VI at the time, as I didn't know about the number changes for the US addition) FF VII was the big reason I wanted my PS 1.
I wont' deny that FF VII did a lot for RPG's. The Cinematics looked great, and still do, even if the polygons themselves have aged poorly.
And ...
"Shadows do not defy convention with the goal of appearing different."
My point in the article was more in relation to the hipsters themselves defying convention and a description of that particular 'shadow', not shadows in general.
And the name wasn't so much the editors fault (I don't think he's played Persona) more so it was my mistake. I should have thought to double check the names spelling since I haven't played for a...
It was never intended to be a review of the game, just a piece talking about the games that came out and why I did or didn't like them.
That was my reasoning for never actually doing a review proper of the game, along with I didn't think I could give it a fair shake.
As I replied to a couple other people, though I stated the list wasn't meant to be objective, I should have title the article proper something different. A mistake on my part.
I fully understand I'm in the Minority on this one, it was also never intended to be an objective list. As I replied to the other guy though, I should have had a different title for this list then I did. That was a bit of an oversight on my part.
I would like to say here that before I got the the actual list, I did write 'Anyway, this is not on objective list in the slightest' and earlier I stated it was teh games I liked.
I will say, however, you are correct. 'My Nine Least favorite games' or something to that effect would have been a much better title.
Perhaps I should have touched more on that, but other then Card Refine (Which requires one enjoy the card game) each method of acquiring stocks requires no effort and takes up a chunk of time, it all ends up feeling like Mindless busy work, even if some methods are a bit less annoying.
And those Isles don't apply until Much, much later in the game.
Writer of the article here. I did address the bit about playing the card game, the big issue I have with that is it requires you play the card game, which hinges entirely on whether or not you like the card game. I happen to hate it, but I do see how the card game itself is enjoyable.
I perhaps should have elaborated on the aspect of grinding, but I do think grinding can be done well. For example leveling up can be fun because you are adjusting your encounters, come up with ...
I really hope that out of all of this we can showcase this stuff to Indie Developers, as they are the ones who get hurt most by this kind of favoritism for friends these people are showing.
Hopefully this will be enough to get people to notice all of the other things that have happened recently, such as shenanigans involving GameJourno's Pro.
At least we're getting this crap exposed. Glad that at least one big site is willing to let this article stay up!
Both of the interviews with Pinsof have been fantastic. Hope this gets all the exposure it can.
I think part of the problem is my dislike of going into spoilers, and there are quite a few things that drag this game down a bit for me that would spoil the main plot. Makes it a bit hard to convey all of my own problems with it. I need to find a way to work on that.
As I said though, I do still like the game (I described it as my least favorite of the good ones, though I am wishing I found a different way to say that). After replaying it on PC before writing this my opinio...
