Yes blu-ray is needed this gen,it allows for games like MGS4,FF13,Killzone2,The getaway 3,Little big planet. to go BEYOND the limit of 9GB'S. as well as blu-raying being not only high deff,but the HIGHEST deffinition you can get in a gameing console.
Is HDD needed for this gen? stupid question,sure it is.And the only reason game's installed on PS3 HDD is to make it faster for the blu-ray to read the disc.hence it reads the disc,and the HDD.
