They could implement a design like Shadowrun did for 360. When running with a sword, the game defaults to third person so that you get the scope of what's going on. Peripheral vision is super important in close quarters combat. Personally I don't see why you can't just switch when you deem fit. The Suffering had that figured out over a decade ago.

Battlefield does a better job of making it fun no matter what you like to do in game and pays you back way more than COD when it comes to time invested. I started off my Battlefield career hardcore in Bad Company 2 mostly just running engineer tank killing and sniping here and there, tanking, etc. Now a couple of games later I'm taking out tanks with Zuni missiles and piloting jets making bombing runs on boats, etc. Cod is kind of a one trick pony and you only get to see the fireworks aft...

If the enemy team is coming at you and doesn't have the common sense to stay out of the open, you stay in one place and mow them down until they take you out. Played the original LoK on my OUYA recently. Seems to have aged ok, still a fun little game. Better than the Soul Reaver series IMO they just didn't have 3d world exploration all the way figured out yet, a Soul Reaver remake with true dual stick controls and upgraded graphics would be awesome. They had that weird GoldenEye setup back then where only one stick controls the camera and the left bumbper centers the camera behind you...remember those days??? N64 baby!!!
