Noise is probably my biggest issue with the 360. I own three, 2 pre-Falcon, one Falcon. The fan is just too loud when doing nothing but playing movies, and that seemingly hasn't changed between the pre/post Falcon. When watching movies with quiet/subtle sections it can be a bit hard to hear without adjusting volume. My wife and I rent a movie once a week off the Video Marketplace. Some movies are a non-issue, but others can be tough in places.

...what is happening with the titles MS licensed out, such as Shadowrun and MechWarrior. I would love to see a proper Shadowrun RPG and in the distant past I enjoyed MechWarrior. Also curious if they licensed it out so it could only be on the PC/360.
MS actually DOES have a fair amount of IP in their studios or from by-gone studios, but it is unclear if/how they doing anything with it. While I applaud their support of third parties, and being publishers, not owning the IP seems...
Ya I find that interesting too, particularily when the 360 is still pegged negatively as a shooter box, yet some of the biggest titles this year on the PS3 are shooters (RFOM 2, and KZ2 being the big ones).
Oddly, what attracts me right now on the 360 is the diversity it has (I'm not a shooter fan, though oddly I Gears really drew me in ... more so than Halo ... I think I prefer third person).
The 360 is still (IMO) the best console for RPG fans (West- or Japan...
Only thing that has really been said is 'interactive entertainment'. I would love for it to be an RPG, but something tells it isn't (hope I'm wrong). Would be great to see if Peter Jackson could tie the emotional depth that the Halo 3 TV ads brought and put that into a game. Peter Jackson is a good story teller, and the Halo universe has plenty to draw from
A couple problems with what you listed though:
a) MS is publishing Ninja Gaidan 2 (i.e. no PS3 ... and NG 1 wasn't on the PC)
b) MS accounced with Ubisoft that Splinter Cell: Conviction is exclusive to the 360 (back in mid-to-late 2006 .. no talk of PC and with PC sales generally slower, not sure it will happen...but may)
I agree the 360 has had plenty of RROD issues. One of mine died that way (as did two of my friends' 360s). Those that bought last year h...
Hey robbo,
Agreed, there are plenty of PS3 titles coming year in general. Talking about games being slow-in-coming for the PS3 in 2007 was true, but cannot be said for 2008. There are a lot of high quality games coming.
When it came to the PS3 titles I listed, those were just examples.
When it comes to imports, I don't know of any offhand on the PS3 side (some titles have been announced in Japan that I expect will show up state-side, but no word on...
Hey LJWooly,
Thanks for the bubble. Ya I'm just not that interested. The style of game just isn't for me. As a note, I didn't put MGS4 and Splinter Cell on the same line to say they are of equivalent lineage, desire, or quality but just that they are of the same genre, and I'm not a fan of it.
That said, my belief in owning a console is that you should own/rent the big gun games for it, even if they aren't your favourite genre. I say this because a) it is a good ...
Not sure why you would say this. The line-up, at least for my tastes (RPG-ish), are fantastic this year. From an exclusive standpoint:
- Culdcept Saga (next week)
- Lost Odyssey
- Too Human
- Fable 2
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Sacred 2
- Mass Effect DLC
- Operation Darkness (Atlus importing it)
- Spectral Force 3 (Atlus importing it)
On top of that, I'm interested in:
- Banjo and Kazooie

I disagree with the generalization in your first statement. For example, now that I can download movies my DVD purchasing has dropped drammatically; I own around 600 DVDs and I never rented.
The format war and availability of download rentals have had me look at my purchasing habits and change. I do agree that discs will be around for awhile, but I also believe purchasing will be dropping and renting (via downloads) will be increasing. I will buy when the movie is something I ...
While the Cell is a big departure from previous commonly used CPUs, to dismiss various parts of the 360 would be wrong. The inclusion of the high-bandwidth 'intelligent' EDRAM as a companion of 360 GPU is very non-standard (it is RAM that is capable of performing various operations) and not off the shelf, and so was (less so now) the GPU. Having unified shaders was also a new idea (and a good one). For more back and forth on the GPUs see http://arstechnica.com/arti...
First, let me be clear. I prefer the games on the 360 BUT the Cell is by far way more powerful at handling floating point operations than the CPUs in the 360.
With that said, how you get the performance out is an entirely different matter and you are only as fast as your slowest links. So to do a true performance analysis you need to look at processor caching size, memory bandwidth etc. Ultimately, I have no idea which is faster but I would guess the PS3 should be more capable ...
Funny, when I look at the list, I don't see a huge amount in common, but it goes to show that you should buy based on what you like. So while I would agree that Fallout is higher on my list over MGS4 (well games like MGS4 or Splinter Cell: Conviction, aren't even on my list), I would have put Fable higher and removed a large portion of the list and replaced with others.
Surprised there were no comments that there were 2 more 360 exclusives over the PS3 (not including the GTA ex...
With all the titles listed, and the plenty of PS3 exclusives, I find it odd that not a single 360 exclusive is listed, be it Alan Wake, Too Human, Ninja Gaidan, Halo Wars, Splinter Cell: Conviction, or Fable 2. Sure, people have different tastes but the games I just mentioned are all different and didn't even make honourable mentions. Strange.
Let me first be clear and say that I'm a large fan of the 360 (I have three of them), and that I personally have not bought any HD movies due to this war.
As the article said, Sony definitely has more to loose if Blu-ray were to disappear, but I'm of the opinion that this has a chance of impact Xbox 360 sales or perhaps more importantly, positively impact PS3 sales. With the HD war most likely nearly over, those who have not yet plunged into the new gen of consoles have yet ano...
Now I know that the PS3 has the highest profile game coming out this year (MGS4), but the 360 does have exclusives coming this year, more than just want was reported (this is off the top of my head):
- Too Human
- Kingdom Under Fire: CoD
- Sacred 2
- Lost Odyessey
- Culdcept Saga
- Operation Darkness
- Ninja Gaidan 2
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Fable 2
- Halo Wars
- Banjo and Kazooie
- Infinite Undi...
Here are my comments:
a) Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. I consider this one of those 'stress reliever' games. Not hard on the hands or head, but great fun and probably better in coop (up to 4 players).
b) Has strong RPG elements, though they aren't terribly deep, at least in the demo. On leveling you increase HP, skill and luck... skill level impacts ability to quickly use weapons and spells.
c) Is similar to but deeper than Ninety-Nine Nights.
d) This...
I put plenty of gaming hours in during a week on my 360 but it gets more total usage as a media center. My daughter listens to music every day when downstairs (so it goes for at least 4 hours a day on music) and my wife and I rent a movie every week from the Marketplace.
Perhaps not so oddly, due to the HD wars and the fact I can rent on Marketplace my DVD purchasing has dropped drammatically. And given the ease of renting, I will not be purchasing at the same level once the f...
For RPG folks, the 360 is definitely in a good spot, particularly next year. I didn't include other Japanese hybrids like Operation Darkness either. The PS3 isn't quite there yet (for RPGs).
The breadth of titles on the 360 is actually pretty good. On top of what I mentioned there are a lot shooters, racing, sports, etc, games, with an increase in RTS games. The weaknesses are really platformers and adventure games.
Ratchet, Drake's, etc are really shining exampl...
MS has negotiating room. The biggest issue MS had with Blu-ray was Java and not having managed copy. I think the later was resolved, and if they can get HD-i out there (which is generally less problemmatic than Java), it changes things up for MS. Also, Blu-ray is in a bit of flux with the differnet profiles, so the possibility of introductiong something like HD-i isn't as big an issue. The only 2.0 capable profile system is the PS3, and that is easy as hell to update to include HD-i.
