Those PAL cases while aesthetically cool, have the cheapest plastic in them. I've got a few of them myself and had to switch them out. Wonder why Sega went that route for you guys? Surely they had to cost more than standard CD cases at the time?

If you are on the fence about collecting for the DC, the time is right. Rare games on the system are still affordable in the 30-40 range. The titles that nearly everyone had- your Crazy Taxi,Jet Gring Radio, Code Veronica etc fall in the 5-15 range. Accessories like controllers are a steal, two for 20.

Also on certain titles Sega produced way too many copies a la Atari with ET. So just this week I bought a sealed copy of Chu Chu rocket for 5 bucks shipped. As well as Space Ch...

Thanks, I'm glad you got a laugh out of it! I definitely hear you on the space issues when it comes to collecting. Just this past year I sold off my entire Gameboy collection. I knew the chances of me actually playing any of it was next to nil, but it was still hard to let it go!

No order:

1. Sega - Golden Axe, Shenmue, Viruta Fighter, Sonic, Skies of Arcadia

2. Nintendo - Zelda, Starfox, Mario, Earthbound (we need more Earthbound)

3. Koei: Love those historical games- Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition...

4. SNK: King of Fighters, Metal Slug, The Last Blade

5. Naughty Dog: Everything

Sadly a lot of these series that have been mentioned are colle...

If Nintendo shows me a cool Starfox game (with no shitty ground missions, I'm looking at you SF Assault) I'm in. A new Earthbound or Fire Emblem game I would be in too. I want to get this system but I'm waiting for a few more titles that are appealing to me.

Look at it this way Atlus is now owned by Sega. Sega commented they would allow Atlus to work on some of their IP's that have collected dust. Bring us a proper sequel to Golden Axe. If anyone could do it, its this development team right here.

I'm waiting for Costco to get it back in stock. $489 comes with either KillZone or Knack, plus an extra controller and a year on the PSN. That is a deal!

What was hilarious to me was IGN not having the journalistic integrity to call a spade a spade and give the online a score. There have been tons of games they have reviewed that had broken / unfinished multiplayer aspects. This was always seen as a negative (because it is) and it detracted from the overall score. I still think GTA is a great game but to me everything on a disc is mutually exclusive to the final product. The MP for a long time was not the experience they marketed to us.

Hell FF3 /6 fighting a king Octopus who spews cheesy one liners? Getting a cat creature and Bigfoot to join your team?

A frog protagonist in Chrono Trigger?

You're right, this genre has always had a tongue and cheek aspect to it.

Whats controversial is the way gaming "journalists" (we need a new term for them) spun and subsequently blew up minute stories. Trying to imply failure rates / tech hiccups were the rule rather than the exception of the exception. The way games are covered these days makes TMZ look like the BBC.
