This is not communism lol this is totalitarianism. And totalitarianism is much MUCH worse! Orwell's 1984 becomes more relevant everyday it seems :(
Reggie?
Whaa? Modern has nothing to do with 2D vs 3D. They are each a sub-genre or sub-category of the fighting game genre.
Saying that 2D fighters are not modern while 3D fighters are is like saying 2D platformers are not modern while 3D platformers are.
By your logic, games like Super Mario Bros Wii and Rayman Origins are not modern while Super Mario Galaxy is. Doesn`t make any sense...
No problem. Luckily, I haven't gone completely cold turkey on Nintendo. I still get my fill of Mario through one of my friends and I always borrow systems and the new Zelda from an uncle who is a Zelda fan (it's the only game he plays haha). And Melee is still the game I play the most with friends!
Cheers
This article blew my mind because... Sakurai is actually the reason I no longer support Nintendo!
Melee was my favourite game on the Gamecube and I was looking forward to Brawl. But once I played Brawl, my time as a Nintendo fan ended. Slow gameplay, almost no hitstun or combos, and... tripping???... Seriously?! I was devastated! And then to hear Sakurai's comments about his reasoning for the changes; how he wanted to make the game accessible and thought that Melee was to...
I laughed hard. Thank you.
Mmm, I don't think it is fair to pin the "hand-holding" label strictly on Japanese games. Where's the argument that shows that Japanese games truly own this feature?
Some may even argue that the "hand-holding" philosophy to game design become popular in the west first. But who really knows? And like some posters before me mentioned, western games also are guilty of this. For ever Japanese game one can name that holds the players hand, one can name...
$70 a game?
But, but... my three favourite games this gen are Dark Souls, MGS4, and Bioshock...
oh no, two of them are Japanese?! I guess I must like crappy games /s
Video was pretty interesting. I'm excited to see how they go about proving their thesis. Cautiously optimistic about it so far. The apparent divide between 'JRPGs' and 'Western RPGs' has been a distinction that I have been curious about. Unfortunately, I haven't put much thought into it.
And, now that I think about it, defining RPGs can be broken down further than simply distinguishing different RPGs by giving them the label 'western' or '...
Those two are truly unbelievable. I laughed so hard when I read through both of their comments back to back. Too perfect.
But seriously, I hope those guys aren't serious...
