No why people say this kind of stuff is because they're public figures and the first thing they do is make the most morale statement possible to gain as many followers as possible. Why video games affecting children? Because parents are one of the most prominent groups anywhere, and its easy to scare them into believing they need to ban something to protect their children rather than actually asking their child what is really wrong.
Except games. But thats just personal preference.
