If they would not develop it alongside the main development people would complain that there is nothing to do 5 days after launch.

But they are selling way more copies now than in previous generations.
I mean, I started with the God of war series years after it came out. I was still able to enjoy it. There was no hype around those games when I played them neither was there hype around the ratchet and clank games from ps2 when I played them 5 years ago. But imagine, I was able to enjoy them a lot.
