Its's logical if you have the game and all the patches installed that you don't have to install or download the data again if you change from physical to digital format.
It's not logical that you will buy a digital game again if you have a physical version or vice versa.

I don't think it will be discontinued just yet, remember ps4 is now a budget option... People still use PSN Store on it aka spending money.
But Sony can chose which games will be cross platform and which one to drop cause of hardware limitations and make ps5 only.
Series S is a budget option for MS, but they can't drop it. It would be false marketing and bad will.
