@Dem0n It's incredible that even when you just post the metacritic scores that show Forza to have better reviews than GT you have 100% more 'disagree's than 'agree's. Come on fanboys, you can't disagree with him for printing a (easily checkable) statistic! What the hell is wrong with you?
Also what that video shows is that both games appear to have slightly retarded AI but only in a very rare situation. I'd like to see more comparisons of the ra...
@Lawliet That's great but how do you explain it away to those of us who own both consoles and can see plainly the jaggy shadows on GT5 that don't effect Forza 3? And the lack of background detail in GT5 compared to Forza? (Both of which are a long way behind NFS Shift and F1 2010 but running at 60fps) GT5 has better looking cars but even then it's only the premiums and Forza has managed to include the cars that Westerners actually want to drive!
As a games artist myself (spent 3 years working on Killzone 2 since you mention it, plus several racing titles) I can't understand why PD didn't just have a couple of artists on full time duty bringing those old tracks up to scratch and just adding a few more polys to the low res cars, at least enough to smooth out the curves. I find it quite ridiculous to see the exact same flat textured tree branch repeated 10 times in a row when pretty much all other games, including racing titles,...
@LeShin Sorry to burst my bubble? Which bubble is that? Is it the bubble where I've been working in the games industry as an artist for the past 6 years? The bubble where I've modelled vehicles and environments for several racing games including Motorstorm and PGR3? Or 3 years working at Guerrilla games on Killzone 2? It seems I'm a 'fanboy'? Of what?
Now back to your first statement: "How on earth can you compare a car to an F1 car?? Which one requir...
Sure I'll reply. My perfect racing game would take the good points from all existing racing games and either match or improve on them. Since GT4 was already at the top of the pile I would expect GT5, after a 5 year wait, to be significantly improved. I would expect the tracks and standard cars to receive a graphical overhaul also to bring them at least to a similar resolution on the exterior to the Premium cars. Car damage should be there and visible. Other games have managed it for years...
xyn3dy Just noticed that myself so came back to edit that out of my comment! Unfortunately the 'edit' option has disappeared so I'll just apologise for that part and admit I'm wrong! (and feel a little bit more stupid than I did before)
@morganfell You're right. It's been much longer than 6 years seeing as most of the cars and tracks have been around for at least 10 with very little work gone in to update them.
"he says, you cant change your OUTFIT.
LOL "
Actually he says the game is full of strange game design decisions and uses that as an example. Why are you forced to pick one and stick with it? Would have been so hard to let you edit such an unimportant feature any time you felt like it? And maybe given you more clothing items as you progress since people like that shit! I've got one for you. If i select a race but I'm not currently using the correct car why do ...
LOL I bought my G25 3 years ago for this game! It was kind of emotional when the two finally met :) And then kind of annoying when I went into the options and found PD STILL haven't included the G25, G27 or the Fanatec - 3 of the best wheels out there- in their officially supported list. Does anyone know the best options for configuring the buttons on this? I want handbrake on a wheel button if possible.
@LeShin Did you even read the article before trashing it? Apparently not, typical fanboy response. Here let me quote it for you " I thought it might single-handedly make the 360 look old. But it doesn’t. It’s better looking than Forza 3, sure, but I’d say F1 2010 looks better on both PS3 and 360. Surely Codemasters shouldn’t be showing up both Microsoft and Sony."
So it's BETTER LOOKING than Forza 3 in his opinion but not as good looking as F1 2010 which didn...
"Well to have the best racing experience you must have GT5" Depends on what your idea of the best racing experience is. GT5 gives me the most realistic (and occasionally frustrating due to my lack of driving skill!) handling experience but most of the races I've played in the early stages have been dull. Codemasters racing games, while not realistic, have always been more fun and intense- Grid, Dirt and F12010 are all more entertaining GAMES in my opinion. TOCA was more fun in 1...
Based on my initial 4 hours of playtime this evening I'm thinking that if people liked GT4 they'll like this, if they didn't there's nothing here that'll change their minds. Now granted I appreciate there's a hell of a lot I haven't seen but it does appear that the career structure is identical, early races have been mostly dull (get to front- stay there- traditional GT) and although the cars are stunning the tracks I've seen so far are quite devoid of interest...
Unbelievable. I don't just mean the quality of the rain effects on the track, which look simply incredible- I'm talking about the level of pig headed fanboy denial that I see on these forums. The cars don't seem to get wet. The Zonda looks exactly the same as if it were dry. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am. PGR has a good water shader for cars, so does F1 2010 so it's obviously possible but apparently not done in GT5 which I think is a bit of a shame. However I...
Absolutely agree with the doors comment. It's a lazy way of showing a sign of damage that racing devs have been using for years as it's cheap and makes it obvious to the player that the car has been affected but it just doesn't strike me as realistic. It's more likely the doors would get jammed shut in a crash- at least that's what my father, the ex-fireman- tells me!
I'm not sure why this is getting any heat! Sure, it looks great but race seat setups just like it have been around for years. We have one very similar to this just sitting gathering dust in my office..I think I may have to find a way to make it drive to my house....
The FIA won't let them do full, car splitting damage. Same as FIFA isn't allowed to do diving any more. At least you can flip the cars though, looks pretty good.
Also the first review is in. GameInformer magazine gives it only 58. I hope that they're wrong as I want this to be as good as the old ones but I'll wait for other reviews before ordering it.
I totally agree, the menu system wasn't great. It didn't explain for instance that only 2 people could be predators so since i wasn't quick enough with the horrible clunky interface I never got to try that. And a straight up DeathMatch is no way to highlight this game's strong points (assuming that it works like you'd expect). Team DM would have been a much better idea surely? Then you could actually work together to exploit each race's strengths and weaknesses. In DM as a Marine it just felt...
I have to admit on Battlefield 2 (PC) I was usually the assh*** running around by myself capturing bases and blowing stuff up :) I never really got on with BFBC I missed my mouse too much!
But why no mention of SOCOM in this article? From the MAG devs, that game has been wearing the Playstation tactical shooter crown (it's camo painted and all the shiny bits have been covered) for years now. Try the lone wolf approach in that game and see how long you last!
In GT5 it used to work if you held triangle button (equivalent of) down at the start of the race. Kind of clunky so maybe they changed it. I haven't actually tried it in GT6
