Yes that was indeed a sword, although not the Master Sword because the hilt was different but the sheath was similar. Perhaps the sword will go through a leveling up transformation as well as link and gain strength and new abilities.
Only thing that could make my Wii U better is if it could warm up my pizza pockets.

I'm pretty sure that's link and I have a funny feeling since the masses have begged for a playable princess zelda, she will in some way, shape, or form be playable.
