That is a cop out. They know they can segregate the community on MP, make you pay for the DLC maps your mates paid for, so to continue to have fun online with them YOU have to pay for the DLC as well. SP games do not make the money after release as MP online games do.
Developers want to make a badass SP campaign, the Publishers don't.

That is how console gaming works however. Because of the lack of titles, you pretty much buy what comes out because the choices are low. This is not a knock on consoles, it's just that is what they are.
