Sony and Nintendo won't say such thing would happen in several years because they have strong gaming lineup and huge success in gaming. They have much better insight in industry and no need to push "idea" to sell their products.
Do you remember at the end of last generation there are a lot of reports on "console gaming is dying"?
MS only show the revenue of gaming department but never reveal the profit.
No one knows if there is profit or loss in their gaming department
Nintendo just reveals they sold through over 30 million by the end of this January while they has shipped 32.27 million by the end of last year.

For now, Netease hasn't proved its money can really help those developers funded by Netease, unlike Tencent did with Epic and Riot games. And unlike Netease always just bought a minority stake, Tecent always invested in a huge amount and still keep western developers independent. Even though Tecent is still infamous among many Chinese gamers but we all admit it is very good in gaming investment.
For netease, Chinese gaming community also think part of Blizzard issue is ...
Lmao, you western journalists really know nothing about those Chinese game company.
Netease is notorious for copying and plagiarizing western games popular in China to make mobile/MMO games in China. And after pointing out by Chinese gamers they bought the rights or some minority shares of the company they plagiarized.
Detroit is really popular in China social media last year, especially within young people. There are already some TV series critised for u...

When will cross-play become a defining feature?
When single player games are dead.
So it won't be a defining feature for PlayStation because there is always high demand and huge player base for single player game.
But for some other platform which is just for specific group of player, it could be.

Even though PC Esports dominates Korea, its console market keeps growing fast in this gen due to PS4 popularity. Nintendo also sees a good growth after switch release.
And also no surprise, Xbox has no power in asia, especially in Japan, China and Korea.
No suprise. Several years ago even though MS refused to reveal actual number they still claimed Xbox One outsold 360 in same period. While from 2017 they never said such thing and just focus on active user number combined on Xbox and Windows PC.
This isn't news. Such title "God of War Designer joins Microsoft new studio The Initiative" have been reported by a lot of journalists from last year E3. The only difference here is that this designer has a name now.
When your console sells bad, when your game lineup looks and plays bad, you have to rely on such thing to build some delusional hype.
If FS wants Sony won't refuse, if FS doesn't want Sony won't force.
And then you will feel it a bit short after playing through Trails of Cold Steel IV
The popularity of kinect help Xbox 360 strong growth in mid gen and late gen.
Lol, Sony has been doing such thing for several years in asia area with dual pack or triple pack, mostly for first party games. (All falcom games including Sen No Kisek series and a lot of JRPG are localized and published by SIE in asia area except Japan)
Unlike some consoles just sell at specific english speaking countries, PlayStation are sold well around the world and Sony has different strategies in different area.
If they sent emails in 2019 to survey new console, PS5 won't be released in the same year, too soon to react.
The domination of PlayStation is really bad for journalists. Some of them have to rely on clickbaits to make a living
"due to increasingly strict regulations on all platforms."
So this franchise selling extremely bad on Switch and PC is also Sony's fault?
Time to change, senpai
