Reasons:
1. Sonic 3 and Sonic Knuckles came out. One of the best sonic games.
2. Super Metroid came out. One of the best games ever.
3. Donkey Kong Country came out. This was a important first step in creating the 3D models in games we use today.
4. On the PC front, Warcraft and System Shock were released.
5. Final Fantasy VI (or III if you prefer) came out on the SNES. The game blew away all my expectation of what an RPG was, ...

I don't know if I should buy Uncharted 2. The first one was great, but it lacked replay value, and the trophies were really easy to get.
