The best beginnings I have seen this past two years are Uncharted 2 Train, God of War 3 Gods vs Titans(+Kratos) and Mass Effect 2 Shepard's Death. Also from few years back, the mindf*ck commercial beginning of MGS4 and Bioshock plane crash.
Seriously, the plasma cutter is the best weapon(or the most useful) in DS1 so it kinda sucks if new players cannot use it at the beginning.

I said Bulletstorm sounds like it has horrible dialog. I know about Japanese games english dubbing sucks so they usually get a free pass.

Starcraft 2? Disappointing? Wow, talk about someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. My only gripe for SC2 is that the campaigns are split but I don't complain because the expansion packs will have a fully-loaded polished campaign for Zerg and Protoss. Now patiently waiting for Heart of the Swarm.
When MS announce more hardcore games for 360 in 2011 then it will be the greatest year for gaming.

It has its share of flaws. The reason many people place MGS4 first then Uncharted 2 second is that MGS4 ended a long running series and usually when a videogame series end(or somehow the storyline ended), it is usually crappy(Halo 3?). MGS4 met every fan's expectations on how the series should end. Compared to present games like UC2, it is pretty much considered outdated tech-wise but it still holds up against games that are released even today.

It depends. Games like LBP doesn't need one since the game is like a modding tool while MGS needs to have one because of the storyline.
