It's like when an only child gets a younger bother/sister.
The core gamers have been an only child for a while know with all the attention directed at them, just recently with the Wii/DS and now Kinect/Move/3DS have the core gamers gotten a younger sibling, and the attention is now split.

Unreal Engine sucks because...
1) Cliffy B is associated with it and "they" are still hurting over him.
2) It is used to make Gears 1/2/3 360 exclusives "they" don't get to play.
3) Because the Samaritan demo has "them" worried about next-gen.

Family game night is a lie, it's a free download, but then you have to buy each individual game. Also Aegis Wing is free. Surprised Crash course/Harm's way aren't on there as they're free too.
I could see that samaritan demo being a good open world game.
Your confusing the major genres (racing,fps,fighting) with sub genres.
Mario Kart/Modnation =/= Forza/GT/NFS
You could say *racing sims* which Forza GT and NFS are, have a lot in common. But who wouldn't expect them to? They're all trying for realism.
Same goes for fps/fighting
Halo(futuristic shooter) =/= CoD/BF(military shooter)
Tekken/Soul Calibur =/= MvC/SF/MK

Gears 1 still something like $30. MW2 released a year later with the same price as it was at launch. I'm staying far away from games on demand.
